Winter brings a touch of magic to Beromünster

The region transforms into a true winter wonderland! Every evening from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., the entire town glows with countless lights. Hundreds of lanterns and thousands of tiny bulbs illuminate paths, walls and stairways – creating a magical backdrop that invites you to pause and enjoy. Stroll through the narrow lanes in the evening, where warm lantern light and twinkling fairy lights cast a festive glow over the old town. Follow the ancient stone steps up to the picturesque squares around the magnificent collegiate church – everywhere, festively decorated Christmas trees and stars shine in friendly competition. In the lovingly restored little Wöschhüsli (the former washhouse) within the collegiate precinct, a beautifully crafted historic nativity scene from the Canonry of St. Michael awaits you – a true highlight for anyone who cherishes traditional Christmas customs.

This special Advent and Christmas illumination – known as “Advent Sparkle” – usually runs from late November to early January, turning Beromünster into a truly romantic winter retreat. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring the region or enjoying skiing or sledging in the nearby mountains.

During the day, enjoy long, relaxing walks through the winter landscape around Beromünster. In Advent, you might also visit the arts and crafts market in Sempach or the spectacular Christmas market in Lucerne – perfect for festive shopping. Getting there and back is easy and stress‑free: the bus stops just around the corner from your apartment.

Beromünster is also the perfect starting point for skiing and sledding enthusiasts:

Just a good hour’s drive (or comfortably reachable by public transport) from Beromünster, you can reach some of the most attractive and family-friendly winter sports destinations in Central Switzerland. Tobogganing fun guaranteed: Many well-groomed sled runs (e.g. on Mount Rigi or in Stoos) offer plenty of excitement and laughter – ideal for families or as a joyful finale to a skiing day. Sleds are usually available for rent on site.

  • Sörenberg – The largest ski resort in the canton of Lucerne, offering around 40–42 km of varied and well-groomed pistes.
With elevations up to 2,300 m, it’s perfect for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers, snowboarders, and families alike.
  • Rigi – The Kingdom of the Mountains with panoramic slopes, gentle runs, and legendary toboggan trails (including the popular Rigi-Kaltbad to Staffelhöhe route).
  • Stoos – A car-free high plateau with sunny slopes, fantastic panoramic views, and one of the best toboggan runs in the region (Fronalpstock/Klingenstock).

Many guests also appreciate the smaller, more manageable ski areas such as Melchsee-Frutt, Hoch-Ybrig, or Einsiedeln – all reachable in 45–90 minutes and often less crowded.

When Winter Reaches Its Peak: Fasnacht Fever!
As winter hits its high point, Fasnacht transforms the region into a colourful, noisy celebration full of life. Directly in front of your door, the lively Fläckefasnacht in Beromünster takes over the historic village centre with parades, traditional Guggen music, children’s events, and wild street parties – especially on Dirty Thursday and Fasnacht Saturday. Just a short bus or car ride away is the famous Lucerne Fasnacht, one of Switzerland’s biggest carnivals. It begins with the legendary “Urknall” at 5 a.m., followed by spectacular parades and Guggen performances all over the city. Colourful, cheerful and full of energy – a fantastic contrast to the peaceful Advent season that makes winter here truly special.

Come to us – power on the slopes by day, romance and magical lights by night. Spend your days enjoying the snow and your evenings in the warm, romantic atmosphere of Beromünster. Treat yourself to a traditional fondue or raclette at the Sennerei Bar & Alpwirtschaft, or simply unwind with a movie on your large OLED TV. Your perfect winter combination is waiting for you!
